Question 47834: x-2(xy-y)+4xy-x(3+y) I need to know how to simplify the expression. I have to know how to do it in long form to understand how to do the steps to get the answer. Thank you Answer by tsmith5651(7) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Simplifying
x + -2(xy + -1y) + 4xy + -1x(3 + y)
x + (xy * -2 + -1y * -2) + 4xy + -1x(3 + y)
x + (-2xy + 2y) + 4xy + -1x(3 + y)
x + -2xy + 2y + 4xy + (3 * -1x + y * -1x)
x + -2xy + 2y + 4xy + (-3x + -1xy)
Reorder the terms:
x + -3x + -2xy + 4xy + -1xy + 2y
Combine like terms: x + -3x = -2x
-2x + -2xy + 4xy + -1xy + 2y
Combine like terms: -2xy + 4xy = 2xy
-2x + 2xy + -1xy + 2y
Combine like terms: 2xy + -1xy = 1xy
-2x + 1xy + 2y
does this help?
