Question 1193138: x=log2x-log8x=4
Found 2 solutions by Edwin McCravy, Alan3354: Answer by Edwin McCravy(20077) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
There is no way to use methods of algebra to solve an equation for
an unknown that appears both inside and outside of a logarithmic,
exponential, or trigonometric function. The only way is to
approximate it with a computer, calculator, or iterative method
("educated" trial and error).
Perhaps you did not mean to have " x= " in the front as if it were
part of the equation, and meant only this equation:

Let's convert one of the logs so we will have both logs to the same
base.
I choose to convert to base 2.
You should memorize the change of base formula:
and plug in a=x, b=8, c=2

So substitute for in

Multiply through by 3

By the definition of logarithms, from the above equation,
we have this:

(You fill in those blanks, the first one with an
eponential expression and the second with a number.

Question 1181401: Letter Z is 26 in base ten;decide Z in binary scale

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In general, to convert a number n in base 10 to another base b, repeatedly divide n by b and pick off the remainders, until the number left is 0.
To convert 26 base 10 to base 2...
26/2=13 remainder 0
13/2 = 6 remainder 1
6/2 = 3 remainder 0
3/2 = 1 remainder 1
1/2 = 0 remainder 1
Those remainders, written in reverse order, are the digits of the converted number in base 2.
ANSWER: 26 (base 10) = 11010 (base 2)
Here is another random example to help you understand the process: convert 417 base 10 to base 5:
417/5 = 83 remainder 2
83/5 = 16 remainder 3
16/5 = 3 remainder 1
3/5 = 0 remainder 3
ANSWER: 417 (base 10) = 3132 (base 5)
CHECK: 3132 (base 5) = 3(5^3)+1(5^2)+3(5^1)+2(5^0)=3(125)+1(25)+3(5)+2=375+25+15+2=417

Question 42221: Which of of numbers are opposites?
A) x and x^-1
B) 2 and -2
C)12 and 21
D) 2 and 1/2
Answer by CoolRekt(53) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Choice B is correct. It's like changing something to a negative. A is wrong since it just changes the exponent, not the base. C is wrong since it just swaps the numbers backwards, not making it a negative. D is wrong because 2 cannot be opposites of a fraction (especially if it isn't a negative).
