You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi, there--
.
I'll show you how to find the subsets of N={1,2,3,4}. You try finding the subsets of N={m,a,t,h}. You can email me through algebra.com or my gmail account below if you get stuck.
.
Every set always has two subsets, the empty set and the set itself. We write those as
.
{}, and {1,2,3,4}.
.
Then {1,2,3,4} has these proper subsets:
.
{1}, {2}, {3}, {4} {1,2}, {1,3}, {1,4}, {2,3}, {2,4}, {3,4}, {1,2,3}, {1,2,4} {1,3,4}, and {2,3,4}
.
In all, the set N={1,2,3,4} has 16 subsets.
.
Now you try it:
Set M={m,a,t,h} will also have 16 subsets.
1 empty set
4 with one element
6 with two elements
4 with three elements
1 with four elements
.
Email me if you have a question or if you get stuck.
