Question 516544: is -3x+y=4
x-1/3y=1 independent, depehndent, inconsistent or consisten

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
is
-3x+y=4
x-1/3y=1
---
Put both equations inslope-intercept form:
y = 3x+4
(1/3)y = x-1
----
y = 3x + 4
y = 3x -3
----
The slopes are the same (3) and the intercepts are different
So the lines are parallel. The system is inconsistent.
That means there is no point (x,y) that satisfies both equations.
