12 men can dig a trench in 8 days

4 times as many men can dig it in 1/4 of that time, so

1/3 as many men will take 3 times longer, so

if 12 men can dig a trench in 8 days, how many men can dig it in 6 days at the same rate?
Let x=number of men needed to dig trench in 6 days
then x men digs at the rate of 1/6 trench per day
and 1 man digs at the rate of (1/6)/x=1/6x trench per day
12 men digs at the rate of 1/8 trench per day
1 man digs at the rate of (1/8)/12=1/96 trench per day
Soooo, (1/6x)=1/96
6x=96
x=16 men---number needed to dig trench in 6 days
