Question 366852: One hose fills a tank in T hours. Another hose fills the same tank in T/2 hours. If both hoses work at the same time, the tank is filled in 12 hours. What is T? Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The first hose fills at the rate of 1/T tank per hour
The other hose fills at the rate of 1/(T/2)=2/T tank per hour
We are told that both hoses working together fill at the rate of 1/12 tank per hour
So, our equation to solve is:
1/T + 2/T=1/12 multiply each term by 12T
12+24=T or
T=36 hours
CK
1/36 +2/36=1/12
3/36=1/12
1/12=1/12
Hope this helps---ptaylor
