Question 354424: a tank can be filled by two pipes in 5 hours and 8 hours respectively. It can be emptied by a drain pipe in 6 hours. If all three pipes are open, how long will it take to fill the tank? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Pipe A 5 hours
Pipe B 8 hours
Pipe C drain 6 hours.
..
A can do 1/5 of the job in 1 hour
B can do 1/8 of the job in 1 hour
C can do 1/6 of the job in 1 hour (draining)
...
all together they will do 1/5+1/8 -1/6 of the job in 1 hour
= 38/240
so it will take 240/38 to fill the tank
= 6.32 hours
