Q2:
3 students are in a competition for scholarship. The student A is twice as likely to get scholarship as B and B is twice as likely to get as C.What is the probability that either student A or B will get the scholarship? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
The probability of anything is the number of ways that it can happen that you would consider a success divided by the number of ways it can happen total -- successes and failures.
There are 30 people in the class -- that is the denominator of your fraction. Any one of the 20 females, brown eyes or not, is a success plus that half of the males that have brown eyes. 10 males half of which is 5. So 20 plus 5 is 25 and that is your numerator. Remember to reduce your fraction.
