Question 1059028: a friend offers the following game: she wins $1 from you if, on 2 rolls of a single die, a 6 turns up at least once; otherwise, you win $1 from her. what is the expected value of the game to you? to her? Answer by jorel555(1290) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! One way to look at this is what are the chances that 6 WON'T come up on either roll. The chances of any other number coming up on the 1st roll is 5/6, so the chances on 2 rolls is 5/6 x 5/6, which is roughly 69.44%. 100% less that is 30.55%, which is your chance for a 6 on either roll. So your expected value is $1 x 30.55%=$0.355. Your friends expected value is $1 x 69.44%, or $0.6944. ☺☺☺☺
