Question 1011023: A classroom of 30 students are all measured by height. The heights are as follows: 5.4, 5.5, 6.2, 5.11, 5.2, 5.4, 5.3, 5.9, 5.3, 5.1, 5.10, 5.11, 6.1, 5.6, 5.8, 5.7, 6.0, 4.11, 5.3, 5.7, 6.3, 5.11, 5.2, 5.4, 5.7, 5.3, 5.5, 5.9, 5.6, and 5.10.
What is the Standard Deviation of the data? Does the data follow a normal distribution?
Thank you!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Add all of the numbers.(164.04)
Divide by how many numbers there are.(30)
This gives you the mean (average) of the numbers.(5.468)
Subtract the mean from each number and square it.
Add these differences. (5.498)
Divide by however many differences you have.
This is called the variance. (0.1833)
Find the square root of the variance-- (0.428)
this is the standard deviation.
.
This is a labor intensive process, and to save space,
I don't show all steps. If you do not understand,
perhaps you should seek additional instruction from your
instructor or an on-line statistics tutor.
.
Perhaps this seems like a pain, but if you pursue math
or science in the future, these seemingly futile
calculations can prove invaluable in what would seem to
be otherwise obscure situations.
.
Or not.
