You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1+(4/(x+1))=-8/(x^2-1). Common denominator is x^2-1 or (x+1)(x-1)
numerator is x^2-1+4(x-1)=-8, and we can ignore the denominator, since it is the same for all
x^2+4x-5=-8 or x^2+4x+3=0
(x+1)(x+3)=0
x=-1, -3
If x=-1, the denominator of the second term on the left and the right term is 0, so this is an extraneous root.
if x=-3
1+(4/-2)=-(8/8)
1-2=-1, checks
answer is x=-3
