I prepared the table to record the numbers, step by step / (line by line), following your steps.

                                                                      at the entrance       add or remove       at the exit

I currently have the English Alphabet containing 26 letters.               26                    0                  26

I remove two of the letters.                                               26                 remove 2           26- 2 = 24

Then , I remove one-half of the remaining letters.                         24                 remove 12          24-12 = 12

Then, I remove an additional one-third of the remaining letters.           12                 remove  4          12- 4 =  8

Then I double the amount of letters I have left.                            8                                      2*8 = 16

Finally, I remove three-fourths of the remaining letters.                  16                 remove 12           16-12 = 4
