Question 340407: x is less than or equal to 1 or x is greater than or equal to 7. How do I determine if the numbers listed on the numberline are marked by a solid dot or a clear circle? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
Same idea as your question about the brackets and parentheses in interval notation. If the endpoint is included as when you are dealing with or , then you use a solid dot. If the endpoint is NOT included, as when you are dealing with or , then you use an open circle.
Summary:
If in Set Builder Notation or an Inequality you see or , then in Interval Notation you use [ or ] and in graphing on the number line you use solid dots.
If in Set Builder Notation or an Inequality you see or , then in Interval Notation you use ( or ) and in graphing on the number line you use open dots.
