m = the price of a package of envelopes
6t + 1m = 12.03
4t + 3m = 12.43
multiply the top equation by -3
-18t -3m = -36.09
4t +3m = 12.43
Add the equations
-14t = -23.66
divide each side by -14
t = 1.69
Substitute 1.69 for t in 6t + 1m = 12.03
6(1.69) + m = 12.03
10.14 + m = 12.03
add -10.14 to each side
m = 1.89
So tape is $1.69 and envelopes are $1.89
