5 x + 2 y = 65 .............1
Total value
3 x + 4 y = 81 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -2
Multiply (2) by 1
-10 x -4 y = -130
3 x + 4 y = 81
Add the two equations
-7 x = -49
/ -7
x = 7
plug value of x in (1)
5 x + 2 y = 65
35 + 2 y = 65
2 y = 65 -35
2 y = 30
y = 15
x= $7 cost of cassette
y= $15 cost of CD
