His parents pay Tyler $0.50 to do the laundry and $1.00 to mow the lawn. In one month, he does the laundry 6 more times than he mows the lawn. If his parents pay him $10.50 that month, how many times did he mow the lawn?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +a+ = number of times he did the laundry
Let +b+ = number of times he he mowed the lawn
------------
(1) +.5%2Aa+%2B+1%2Ab+=+10.5+
(2) +a+=+b+%2B+6+
----------------
(1) +5a+%2B+10b+=+105+
and
(2) +10a+-+10b+=+60+
Add the equations
+15a+=+165+
+a+=+11+
and, since
(2) +a+=+b+%2B+6+
(2) +11+=+b+%2B+6+
(2) +b+=+5+
He mowed the lawn 5 times
check:
(1) +.5%2Aa+%2B+1%2Ab+=+10.5+
(1) +.5%2A11+%2B+1%2A5+=+10.5+
(1) +5.5+%2B+5+=+10.5+
(1) +10.5+=+10.5+
OK
