You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Tim and Bernice both have part time jobs.
Last week, Tim and Bernice worked for 8 and 5 hours respectively and both of them earned $1200.
This week, Tim and Bernice worked for 6 and 10 hours respectively and they earned a total of $1540.
How much is the hourly rate of Tim?
-------------
Equation:
8t + 5b = 1200
6t + 10b = 1540
---------------
Modify:
16t + 10b = 2400
6t + 10b = 1540
-----------
10t = 860
t = $86.00 (Tim's rate)
-------------
Solve for "b" using 8t+5b = 1200
8*86 + 5b = 1200
5b = 512
b = $102.40 (Bernice's rate)
