Let +x+ = the number of geese
+27+-+x+ = the number of horses
+2x+ = the number of feet the geese have
+%28+27+-+x+%29%2A4+ = the number of feet the horses have

+108+-+4x+%2B+2x+=+78+
+108+-+2x+=+78+
+2x+=+30+
+x+=+15+
and
+27+-+15+=+12+

There are 15 geese and 12 horses
