Let +w+ = her hourly wage
+3w+-+3+=+13.5+
+3w+=+16.5+
+w+=+5.5+
$5.50 is her hourly wage
check it:
+3%2A5.5+=+16.5+
+16.5+-+3+=+13.5+
OK

$13.50 + $3.00 = 16.50
$16.50/3 = $5.50
.......................
$5.50 * 3 = $16.50
$16.50 - $3.00 = $13.50
So, Karen's hourly age is $5.50
