Doreen and Irena plan to leave their houses at the same time, roller blade towards each other, and meet for lunch after 4 hours on the road.
Doreen can maintain a speed of 9.9 miles per hour, which is 90% of Irena's speed.
If they meet exactly as planned, what is the distance between their houses?

For Doreen, she covers a distance of (9.9)(4) = 39.6 miles.
For Irena, her speed is 11 miles per hour (found in a separate calculation, Doreen = 9.9 = .9(Irena)), so that
Irena covers (11)(4) = 44 miles
Thus the total distance between them is
39.6 + 44 = 83.6 miles.
