Question 737409: Dear tutor,
For the problem: Write an equation of the line that passes through the given point and is parallel to the given line (18,2), 3y=x-12
I went through these steps:
changed the equation to slope-intercept form: y=1/3x-4
Then plugged in the x and y variables from the point and the slope and solved for b:
y=mx+b
2=1/3(18)+b
b=-4
And ended up getting the equation y=1/3x-4, which is the same as the original! Is this correct or did I do something wrong? Thanks for the help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It looks like the point ( 18,2 ) is
on the given line
+3y+=+x+-+12+
+3%2A2+=+18+-+12+
+6+=+6+
-----------
The line is parallel to itself, so the
answer is OK
