the equation of y = 3x - 2 becomes 0 = 3x - 2
solve for x to get x = 2/3.
the x-intercept is at (2/3,0)
we have confirmed that the y-intercept is -2 and the x-intercept is 2/3.
the slope is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1).
when (x1,y1) = (0,-2) and (x2,y2) = (2/3,0), the slope becomes:

To get to another point, move 3 units up and 1 unit right to get to (1,1)
Plot the points (0,-2) and (1,1) to help graph this straight line.

The motion pattern "up 3, right 1" is directly from the slope 3 = 3/1
slope = rise/run = 3/1
rise = 3 = go up 3
run = 1 = go right 1
