I don't get how to convert units o length.

For example 4ft 6in = _________ ft.

Step 1. 12 inches = 1 feet

Step 2. 6+inches%2A%281%2Afeet%2F12+inches%29=1%2Afeet%2F2=0.5 feet. Note the inches cancel out since they appear both in the numerator and denominator.

Step 3. 4 ft 6 in = 4 ft + 0.5 ft = 4.5 ft.

Step 4. ANSWER: 4ft 6 in = 4.5 ft
