The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent. If the coordinates of a rectangle are M(0,2), A(4,8), T(7,6), and H(3,0)
find the length which would be assigned to each diagonal. State the "exact" length.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is %287-0%29%5E2+%2B+%286-2%29%5E2 = sqrt%287%5E2+%2B+4%5E2%29 = sqrt%2849+%2B+16%29 = sqrt%2865%29 = sqrt%28%284-3%29%5E2+%2B+%288-0%29%5E2%29.
Answer. sqrt%2865%29.
The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent. If the coordinates of a rectangle are M(0,2), A(4,8), T(7,6), and H(3,0) find the length which would be assigned to each diagonal. State the "exact" length.
The diagonals, in this case, are MT, and AH.
Use the distance formula, and either points M and T, or A and H to determine length of diagonal. Leave the answer in radical
form since the EXACT length is required.
