Question 970475: Renna pushed the button for the elevator to go up, but it would not move. The weight limit for the elevator is 450 kilograms, but the current group of passengers weighs a total of 750 kilograms. Renna wants to determine how many 70-kilogram passengers need to get off the elevator.
Let p represent the number of excess passengers. Write an inequality to determine the number of passengers who need to get off the elevator to meet the weight requirement.
What is the minimum whole number of passengers who need to get off the elevator to meet the weight requirement?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
750 kg of people need to be reduced to 450 kg.
That is 750-450 or 300 kg.
70 * p (kg)>= 300 kg
Divide by 70
p>= 4 2/7
But we are dealing with discrete individuals, so the minimum number of passengers that need to get off is the next higher number, or 5.
