Each of the following inequalities is true for some values of x EXCEPT
A x < x^2 < x^3
B x < x^3 < x^2
C x^2 < x^3 < x
D x^3 < x < x^2
E x^3 < x^2 < x

A is true for x=2 

B is true when x=-.5 

D is true for x=-2 

E is true for x= .5

So the only one left is C.  

The cube of a number is never between the number and its square.
