Question 246685: How do I plot the points (4, -6), (-1, -5) and (-3, 2) on a graph and what does it look like when I have finished?
Answer by College Student(505) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A) We need to draw a cartesian plane (see below) to be able to plot these points.
B) The x-axis is the horizontal line in the cartesian plane.
C) The y-axis is the vertical line on the cartesian plane.
D) These two lines form a large cross and intersect at point zero (0).
E) Every time you are given a point, for instance (4,-6), the first number is your x value, the second is your y value. We need to find where these two points meet in the cartesian plane and plot the point (draw a prominent point).
F) Since you are given three points, you will end up with a cartesian plane with three points. No need to link them with a line because the problem does not ask for it.
G) I'm sorry, but I can't plot the points here, but follow these steps:
* For point (4,-6)... find 4 on the x-axis, mentally, draw a line downwards until it is lined up with -6 from the y-axis. Plot your point there and write (4,-6) next to it.
* For point (-1,-5)... find -5 on the x-axis, then (mentally) draw a line downwards until it lines up with -5 from the y-axis. Plot your point there and write (-1,-5) next to it.
* For point (-3,2)... follow the same steps. Find -3 in the x-axis, then +2 in the y-axis. Plot your point and write (-3,2) next to it.

Done! :)
