Those points are the vertices of right isosceles triangle.
In a right triangle, the midpoint of the hypotenuse is equidistant from the three polygon vertices.
The hypotenuse is (-2, 8) to (-8,-4)
The midpont (-5, 2) it is 3sqrt(5) from each vertex
