You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x in be the length of the box.
Let x-4 in be the width of the box.
Let x+9 in be the height of the box.
...
V=l*w*h
180=%28x%29%28x-4%29%28x%2B9%29
180=x%28x%5E2%2B5%2Ax-36%29
0=x%5E3%2B5x%5E2-36x-180
0=%28x%5E3%2B5x%5E2%29-%2836x%2B180%29 ... group
0=x%5E2%28x%2B5%29-36%28x%2B5%29
0=%28x%5E2-36%29%28x%2B5%29
0=%28x%5E2-%286%29%5E2%29%28x%2B5%29
0=%28x%2B6%29%28x-6%29%28x%2B5%29 ... difference of squares
So x=-6 or x=6 or x=-5
Since we are dealing with positive numbers, x must equal 6.
x=6
x-4=2
x+9=15
Therefore, the dimensions of the box are 6in by 2in by 15in.
