Question 328037: The Width of a rectangular box is twice the height and the length is 4 inches more than the height. if the volume is 48 cubic inches, find the dimensions of the box

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x = height
2x= width
x+4 = length
LWH=Volume
x(2x)(x+4)=48
2x^2(x+4)=48
Divide both sides by 2, either now or later. Now is better I think:
x^2(x+4)=24
In order to keep it simple, I would use trial and error, guessing that maybe x=2 would work. It does!!! 2^2(2+4)=24.
x=2 in height
2x=4 in width
x+4=6 in length
Total volume = 2*4*6=48 cubic inches
I don't think I have anything like this on my website, but it does have a LOT of LOT of FREE resources and a GREAT JOKE PAGE--all clean jokes, safe for the little ears in your family!! Click on my tutorname "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. Once you find my Homepage, look for "Joke Page."
