SOLUTION: Graph f(x) = -2x² - 4x +1
Here's what I have:
-2(x²+2x)+1
-2(x²+2x+1)+1+1
But my text is showing me this:
-2(x²+2x+1)-(-2)(1)+1
I am confused as to where the -2 co

Question 950019: Graph f(x) = -2x² - 4x +1

But my text is showing me this:

I am confused as to where the -2 comes from. I am assuming it is from my factoring it out in the beginning, but cannot make sense of it. Anyone have a clear explanation? Thanks in advance! Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You added 1 inside the parentheses but the multiplier on the parentheses was 2, so you really added 2.
In order to keep the equation valid, you need to subtract 2 so that's where the -2 comes from.
