You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x - 5y = -5
-2x - 4y = -4
Solve x -5y = -5 for x
add 5y to each side
x = 5y - 5
Substitute 5y - 5 for x in -2x - 4y = -4
-2(5y - 5) - 4y = -4
-10y + 10 -4y = -4
-14y + 10 = -4
add -10 to each side
-14y = -14
y = 1
substitute 1 for y in x - 5y = -5
x - 5(1) = -5
x -5 = -5
add 5 to each side
x = 0
Verify x - 5y = -5
0 - 5(1) = -5 , This checks.
Verify -2x - 4y = -4
-2(0) -4(1) = -4 , This checks.
So we have x = 0 and y = 1
