Question 1173797: What is the difference between experimental probability and theoretical probability? Provide an example to help explain the difference. Found 2 solutions by Boreal, ikleyn:Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! theoretical probability is based on reasoning. The probability of rolling snake eyes (1, 1) with two dice is 1/36.
experimental probability is based on an actual experiment or test. We rolled the dice 100 times and 3 times it came up snake eyes, so the experimental probability was 0.03
Theoretical probability is what we expect to happen, where experimental probability is what actually happens
when we try it out. The probability is still calculated the same way, using the number of possible ways an outcome
can occur divided by the total number of outcomes. As more trials are conducted, the experimental probability
generally gets closer to the theoretical probability.
