Question 412893: When asked to simplify this equation: -2(27)^2/3, without using a calculator I understood that you would take the denominator (3) and put the equation like: -2(3 to the square root of 27^2. The answer the book gives is -18 and I have no idea how they got that answer...please help. :)

simplify this equation: -2(27)^2/3
..
You just misread the expression. To make it clearer it should read: -2*27^(2/3)
To solve, take the cube root of 27=3, square it=9 times -2=-18

I change 2/3 to .667
and I get -18
