How can you solve this problem 3x+9=5

The idea is to get x alone on one side  of the equal sign...

so one can read  " x = (the answer)"

 3x + 9 = 5

  3x + 9 - 9 =  5 - 9     |removing the 9 from the x side by adding (-9) to both sides

       3x = -4            |removing the 3 from the x side by dividing both sides by 3

        x = -4⁄3
