Subtract 5X from both sides
X+-+26+=+28
Add 26 to both sides
highlight%28X+=+54%29

6x - 26 = 5x + 28 take 5x from both sides this gets rid of the unknown from one side of the equation
6x - 26 - 5x = 5x + 28 - 5x which gives
x - 26 = 28 now add 26 to both sides this gets rid of the number from the side with the unknown still on
x - 26 + 26 = 54
and this gives
x = 54
