You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I need to solve the following problem and show the equation used for the solution:
In a town election, the winning candidate had 220 more votes than the loser. If 810 votes were cast in all, how many votes did each candidate receive?
-----------
Let "x" be the number of votes the loser had.
Then the winner had "x+220".
EQUATION:
x+x+220=810
2x+220=810
x+110=405
x=295 (number of votes for the loser)
x+220=515 (numbe of votes for the winner)
