Most people do NOT like fractions, so I recommend that you multiply both sides of the equation by the Least Common Denominator of the problem which is 3.

3%2Ax+%2B+3%2A%28%281%2F3%29%2Ax%29=3%2A8

3x%2Bx=24
4x=24
x=6
