a. xy>0
x and y must have the same sign
That is true in the 1st and the 3rd quadrants.

b. xy<0
x and y must have opposite signs.
That is true in the 2nd and 4th quadrants.

c. xy=0
If x=0 y can be any value. That describes the x axis.
If y=0 x can be any value. That describes the y axis.
