You can put this solution on YOUR website! These questions are not hard to answer if you understand- The coordinate plane: where are x's and y's are positive, negative and zero
- How multiplication works: When do multiplications result in positive numbers, negative numbers and zero.
A) Where is xy < 0? In other words, where is x times y negative? The result of multiplying two numbers is negative only when one of the numbers is positive and one of the numbers is negative. So where so we find positive x's and negative y's? Answer: Quadrant IV. And where do we find negative x's and positive y's? Answer: Quadrant II.
B) Where is xy > 0? In other words, where is x times y positive? The result of multiplying two numbers is positive only when both numbers are positive or both numbers are negative. So where so we find positive x's and y's? Answer: Quadrants I. And where do we find negative x's and negative y's? Answer: Quadrant III.
C) Where is xy = 0? In other words, where is x times y zero? The result of multiplying two numbers is zero only when one or both of the numbers is zero. So where so we find zero x's? Answer: On the y-axis. And where do we find zero y's? Answer: On the x-axis.
