You can put this solution on YOUR website! Before the final exam, a student has 5 test scores of equal weight: 72, 80, 65, 78, and 60. If the final exam counts as one-third of the final grade, what score must the student receive in order to have a final average of 76?
:
Let x = final grade
:
Find the average of the 5 test scores
= 71
:
This counts as 2/3, twice as much as the final which is 1/3
:
= 76
142 + x = 3(76)
x = 228 - 142
x = 86 to have an average of 76
