You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3 yrs ago she was +k+-+3+
In 4 yrs, she will be +k+%2B+4+
----------------------------
+%281%2F2%29%2A%28+k+-+3+%29+=+%281%2F3%29%2A%28+k+%2B+4+%29+
Multiply both sides by +6+
+3%2A%28+k+-+3+%29+=+2%2A%28+k+%2B+4+%29+
+3k+-+9+=+2k+%2B+8+
+k+=+17+
Lucy is 17
--------------
check the answer:
+%281%2F2%29%2A%28+17+-+3+%29+=+%281%2F3%29%2A%28+17+%2B+4+%29+
+%281%2F2%29%2A14+=+%281%2F3%29%2A21+
+7+=+7+
OK

Lucy is k years old
How old was she three years ago:: k-3
----------------------------------
How old will she be in four years time:: k + 4
----------------------------------
Find her age if half of what she was three year ago is equal to one third of what she will be in four year time
Equation:
(1/2)(k-3) = (1/3)(k+4)
--------
3(k-3) = 2(k+4)
3k-9 = 2k+8
k = 17 (Lucy's age now)
