You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The age of a father and son adds up to 37.
The equation for this would be f+s = 37
The mother's age is 5 times that of the son's
The equation for this would be m= 5s
Mom's age is 7 years less than the father's.
This equation would be m= f-7
Father's age is m+7 = f
Plug this into f+s= 37
(m+7) + s = 37
If m= 5s, then (m+7) + s = 37
5s + 7 + s = 37
6s + 7 = 37
6s = 30
s = 5
This is the son's age.
If s = 5, then f+s = 37 will give us the father's age
f+5 = 37
f = 32
If s= 5, then m=5s gives us the mother's age
m= 5(5)
m= 25

The age of a father and son adds up to 37 and the mother's age is 5 times that of the son's .If mom's age is 7 years less than that of the father's, what is the mother age?

Let mother’s age be M
Then son’s is: %281%2F5%29M, or M%2F5
Father’s is: M + 7
We then have: M+%2B+7+%2B+M%2F5+=+37
5M + 35 + M = 185 ------- Multiplying by LCD, 5
5M + M = 185 – 35
6M = 150
M, or mother’s age = 150%2F6, or highlight_green%28highlight_green%2825%29%29
