You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jack is three times as old as Megan was two years ago.
The sum of their ages three years ago was 16.
How old are Jack and Megan now?
---------------------------------
Now DATA:
Jack is J yrs old.
Megan is M yrs old.
-----------------------
EQUATIONS:
J = 3(M-2) = 3M-6
(J-3) + (M-3) = 16
-----------------------
Substitute J = 3M-6 into the 2nd equation to solve for "M":
(3M-6-3) + (M-3) = 16
4M - 12 = 16
4M = 28
M = 7 (megan's age now)
--------------------------
J= 3*7-6 = 15 (Jack's age now)
