Geometry_Word_Problems/594105: if $80 is estimated to be the average fuels cost (f) and the monthly hanger rental is 5000, write an equation for the cost, c, in terms of x 1 solutions
Answer 376609 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2012-04-01 16:07:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!if $80 is estimated to be the average fuels cost (f) and the monthly hanger rental is 5000, write an equation for the cost, c, in terms of x
.
THe fixed or unchanging cost is $80 for utilities or fuels. The cost per month is $5000. The cost depends on the fixed cost plus how many months the hanger is rented for (x = number of months rented).
.
C(x) = 5000x + 80

Linear-systems/423658: What would the vertex of this equation be f(x) = x2+10x+9 ?? 1 solutions
Answer 295425 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2011-03-17 21:00:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!The formula for the x-variable of the vertex is
.
f(x) = x2+10x+9
So identify the a, b, and c coeficients:
a= +1; b = +10; and c=+9
.
Plug-in the variables and solve for the x-value:

x= -5
.
Plug-in x=-5 and solve for the y-variable
.

=25-50+9
y = -16
.
so the vertex is (-5, -16)

Linear-equations/422862: Find an equation of the line in the slope-intercept form containing the point (1,-5) and perpendicular to the line 2x+y = -4 1 solutions
Answer 295093 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2011-03-16 14:23:50 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Remember the rule that perpendicular lines have slopes that are the negative inverse of each other.
.
First find the slope of the first line by getting the y-value to one side:
2x+y= -4
y= -2x -4
In the slope-intercept format, y = mx + b, where the m-value represents the slope, so the slope is -2.
.
Secondly, the slope of the second perpendicular line is the "negative inverse" of the first slope, so:
-2 becomes 1/2 (flip the slope and multiply it by a negative 1 (-1)).
.
Thirdly, plug-in the values for the second line and put them in the y=mx+b form:
x= 1; y=-5; and the slope m = 1/2, so, we need to solve for the b-value:
y=mx+b
-5 =(1/2)(1) + b
-5-(1/2) = b
b=-5.5, so
.
The second line is y = (1/2) x + 4.5
.
You should go back and check this by plugging in all of the values.

Proportions/422875: if 4 sweaters cost $51.04, how much would 6 sweaters cost?
1 solutions
Answer 295082 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2011-03-16 13:38:28 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!This is a problem involving ratios. First find the ratio of dollars to sweaters. That means, how much would just 1 sweater cost if 4 sweaters cost $51.04?
.
if 4 sweaters cost $51.04:
$51.04 / 4 sweaters = $12.76 / 1 sweater
.
Since one sweater costs $12.76, multiply this by 6 sweaters and you get:
.
how much would 6 sweaters cost?
$12.76 x 6 sweaters = $76.56

Quadratic_Equations/384335: How do u graph- y=x^2+2x-3. Please make it easy to understand!! 1 solutions
Answer 272074 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2010-12-10 22:38:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! y=x^2+2x-3
the easiest way is to use a table of values. you can pick a few numbers for x, plug them in and solve for y.
.
for example, if x = 1, y=1^2 + 2(1)- 3 = 0, so one point is (1, 0)
pick othe values for x such as 0, -1, -3, -4, 1, 3, 5.
.
plug each number in (one at a time) and solve for y. this will give you a lot of points. plot the points on a graph and connect the dots. the graph should look like this:

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/380807: Jason had to submit five animation projects as per his syllabus in the final semesters. He scored 88, 72, 85, and 76 points out of 100 in four projects. What should be his score in the fifth project so that the average of all the projects is at least 83? 1 solutions
Answer 270258 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2010-12-04 19:09:03 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!use the formula for finding the average:
sum/number=average
sum =88+72+85+76+x since you don't know the value of the fifth point, substitute "x"
.
number = 5
average = 83
.
so,
(88+72+85+76+x)/5=83 simplify and solve for "x"
=(321+x)/5=83
=321+x=(83)(5)
321+x =415
x=415-321
x=94
be sure to check your answwer by plugging x = 94 back into the equation

Graphs/380782: How do i find the slope and Y intecept of the problem y=-3/4x + 4 so i can graph it? 1 solutions
Answer 270245 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2010-12-04 18:24:14 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!y=-3/4x + 4 so i can graph it
this is in the slope-intercept form for the equation of a line
y=mx+b
so,
the (x,y) values are the points that will vary along the line
m=the slope of the line
b = the point (0,y) were the line crosses or cuts the y-axis
so, the slope is -3/4 and the y-intercept =4
to graph start at the y-intercept or (0,4)
from that point use the slope to plot the rise/run, so starting at (0,4) go down 3 and over 4. continue for a few points. now go back to the y-intercept (0,4) and go up 3 and to the left 4. continue for a few points. connect the dots for the image of the line.

Numbers_Word_Problems/379388: one number is eight more than twice another and their sum is 20. what are their number? 1 solutions
Answer 269362 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2010-12-01 21:18:30 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!one number is eight more than twice another and their sum is 20. what are their number?
one number = x = 2y+8
another number = y
so, (2y+8)+ y=20
simplify 3y+8=20
3y=20-8
3y=12
y=4,
checking the answer gives x=2(4)+8=16
so, y = 4 and x = 16
4+16=20

Human-and-algebraic-language/367329: decide whether the pair pf lines are parallel,perpendicular,or neither
5x+3y=7
3x-5y=5 1 solutions
Answer 261832 by tutorcecilia(2152) on 2010-11-07 16:51:40 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!First, I would define the rules: Parallel lines have the same slope; perpendicular lines have "egative reciprocal"slopes. Next, convert each line into the slope-intercpt formate y-mx+b.
5x+3y=7
3y=-5x+7
3y/3=-5/3x+7/3
So the slope is -5/3
.
.
3x-5y=5
-5y=-3x+5
-5y/-5=(-3/-5x)-5/5
y=3/5x-1
so, the slope is 3/5
.
.
Since the slopes are the "negative reciprocals" of each other, they are __________________?
