You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-x+4-9x+3≥7(x-2)
Simplify where you can to get:
-10x+7 >= 7x-14
Subtract 7x from both sides; Subtract 7 from both sides
-17x >= -21
Divide both sides by -17; keep in mind that multiplying or dividing
by a negative reverses the inequality sign.
x <= (21/17)

Linear-equations/93599: hello I am having a difficulty with the following equation: Write an equation of the line through (1,-3) and (-2,6).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write an equation of the line through (1,-3) and (-2,6).
-------------
slope = [6--3] / [-2-1] = 9/-3 = -3
---------------
Form of the line is y = mx+b
You have m= -3 and y=6 when x=-2 so you can solve for "b":
6 = -3*-2+b
b = 0
EQUATION:
y = -3x

Is it always possible using the elementary row operations for matrices to transform any square matrix into echelon form with all 1's along its main diagonal?
No. Singular matrices or matrices whose determinant = 0 cannot be reduced
to the unit matrix.
----------------------
2) Can you take any two matrices and add them, subtract them and multiply them together?
No. They must have the same rank (same # of rows and columns) to get added or
subtracted; them must share a dimention to be multiplied, i.e (3Xn)(n*b) can
be multiplied but (nx3)(bxn) can be multiplied only if b=3
----------------
3) Is it possible to divide two matrices?
Yes A/B = B^-1*A

One family leaves 20 minutes ahead of the other family and travels at an average speed of 40 kilometers per hour.
What would the speed of the second family's car need to be if the family is to reach the camp at the same time as the first family?
---------------------
1st family DATA:
Rate = 40kph ; distance = 280 km ; time = d/r = 7 hrs
-----------------------
2nd family DATA:
Time = x hrs ; Distance = 280 km ; Rate = d/t = 280/x kpm
-----------------------
EQUATION:
1st car time - 2nd car time = (1/3) hr
7 - x = 1/3
x = 20/3 hrs
----------
Then Rate of 2nd car = 280/x = 280/(20/3) = 14*3 = 42 kpm

Quadratic_Equations/93571: Can you solve by factoring the quadratic
5y³ + 34y² = 7y
and show every step?
1 solutions

Answer 68144 by stanbon(57290) About Me  on 2007-08-21 11:24:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
factor the quadratic 5y^3+34y^2=7y
--------------
It's a cubic equation.
----------------
Rearrange to get:
5y^3+34y^2-7y = 0
You have a common factor of "y".
y(5y^2+34y-7)=0
---------------------------
To factor 5y^2+34y-7 use the AC Method:
Think of two integers whose product = AC = 5*-7 = -35
and whose sum is B = 34.
The numbers are 35 and -1
Rewrite the quadratic as:
5y^2+35y-y-7
Factor the 1st two and the last two terms separately to get:
5y(y+7)-(y+7)
Factor again to get:
(y+7)(5y-1)
-----------------------
So, y(y+7)(5y-1)=0
You have factored the problem.
------------------------
If you want to "solve" the equation you get:
y=0 or y=-7 or y=1/5

Let "x" be the number of cd's he had before he bought 6 more.
EQUATION:
x + 6 = 42
x = 36
Before the sale he had 36 cds.

# of ways to pick 2 vegetables = 4C2 = [4*3]/[1*2] = 6
# of ways to pick 3 relishes = 5C3 = 5C2 = [5*4]/[1/2]=]10
So, # of ways to pick 2 veg and 3 rel = 6*10 = 60
--------------------------------------------
Question: A bag contains 8 white marbles and 7 blue marbles. Find the probability of selecting each combination
10. 2 white and 3 blue
# of ways to pick 2 white = 8C2 = 28
# of ways to pick 3 blue = 7C3 = 35
So, # of ways to pick 2 white and 3 blue = 28*35
So 28*35 is the number of ways to succeed
-------
The number of possible outcomes of selecting 5 marbles from 15 is 15C5= 3003
Therefore the probability of selecting 2 white and 3 blue is [28*35]/3003
= 980/3003 = 0.3263...

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the ac test to determine if the following trinomial can be factored.
X^2+2x+3
----------
Think of two integers whose product is ac= 1*3 = 3
and whose sum is b=2
----------
No such integers exist.
The trinomial cannot be factored using the ac method.

Percentage-and-ratio-word-problems/93543: I have tried 3 different algebra tutors, to no answer. Suppose a cost benefit model is given by y= 2845 over 100-x . Where y is the cost for removing x percent of a given a pollutant can be removed for $23,000? Choices are: 114.1%, 89%, 8.9%, 447%

----------------
With those figures I do not get any one of those answers.
----------------
23000 = 2845/(100-x)
100-x = 2845/23000
-x = (2845/23000)-100
x = 99.88 %

Solve by completeing the square
x^2=5x+2
--------------
x^2-5x+? = 2 + ?
x^2-5x+[(1/2)5]^2 = 2 + [(1/2)5]^2
x^2-5x+(25/4) = 2 + (25/4)
(x+(5/2))^2 = 33/4
x+(5/2) = [sqrt33]/2 or x+(5/2) = -[sqrt33]/2
x = [-5+sqrt33]/2 or x = [-5-sqrt33]/2

A=Pe^(rt) where r is expressed as a decimal. Solve this formula for t in terms of A, P, and r.
---------------
A=Pe^(rt)
Divide both sides by P:
A/P = e^(rt)
Take the natural log of both sides to get:
ln(A/P) = rt
Divide both sides by r:
(1/r)ln(A/P) = t
