----------
Rearranging I get:
y = 4*(2^(2x-3)-3)+5
y = 4*2^(2x-3)+7
Not sure about this one, but:
It looks to me like y=2^x is moved (3/2)to the right, up 7, and "stretched"
by a factor of 4.
-----------------
Maybe (x,y)----(x-(3/2),4y+7)
----------------
What do you think?

A pharmacist needs to strengthen a 15% alcohol solution so that it contains 32% alcohol. How much pure alcohol should be added to 100ml of the 15% solution?
---------------
15% solution DATA:
Amount = x ml ; Amt of active ingredient = 0.15x ml
-------------------------
Pure alcohol DATA:
Amt = 100-x ml : Amt of active is 100-x ml
--------------------------
32% solution DATA:
Amt = 100 ml ; Amt of active is 0.32*100 = 32 ml
------------------------
EQUATION:
active + active = active
0.15x + 100-x = 32
-0.85x = -68
x = 80 ml
-------------
Amt of pure alcohol needed for the solution = 100-x = 20 ml

-------------------------
Find T(0) to get the starting temperature
find T(some very large number) to get the temperature after
the cup has cooled a very large time.
---------------
As t get's larger and larger (0.28)^t gets closer and closer to
zero.
So as t get's larger and larger T get's closer and closer to 24.

A six-foot tall person walks around the earth. how much farther does the person's head travel than the person's feet?
--------------
If you assume the radius of the earth is x-ft, the
circumference is 2(pi)x ft.
-----------
If you add the 6 ft to the radius you have a radius of x+6 ft.
The circumference of the the path of the head is 2(pi)(x+6) ft.
------------------------
The difference is [2pi(x+6)]-[2(pi)x] ft
2(pi)x+12pi - 2(pi)x

You should convert the equation to a standard form
by completing the square on the y-terms and on the
x-terms separately:
------------
3(y^2+4y+4)-(x^2-2x+1) = -5+12-1
3(y+2)^2 - (x-1)^2 = 6
3(y+2)^2/6 - (x-1)^2/6 = 1
(y+2)^2/2 - (x-1)^2/6 = 1

y- 24,12,6,3
Is it (a)y=24(0.5)^1/x ,(b)y=24(2)^x ,(c) y=12(0.5)^x, or (d) y=24(0.5)^x
b) x-0,3,6,9
y-5,10,20,40
Is it (a) y=5(2)^x ,(b)y=5(3)^x ,(c) y=5(2)^x/3,or (d) y=5(3)^x/2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) x- 0,1,2,3
y- 24,12,6,3
Is it (a)y=24(0.5)^1/x ,(b)y=24(2)^x ,(c) y=12(0.5)^x, or (d) y=24(0.5)^x
--------
Notice that when x=0 answer "a" is undefined
answer b = 24 but when x=1 you get 48 instead of 12
answer c = 12
anser d = 24 and you 12 when x = 1; you get 6 when x =2 etc.
So, d is the answer
-------------------------
b) x-0,3,6,9
y-5,10,20,40
Is it (a) y=5(2)^x ,(b)y=5(3)^x ,(c) y=5(2)^x/3,or (d) y=5(3)^x/2
answer a, b, c and d give 5 when x = 0
answer a gives 10 when x=1; the others do not
So, a is the answer

Quadratic_Equations/121510: Given the quadratic equation x^2-15=2k(x-4), find k if there are two real and equal roots.

Given the quadratic equation x^2-15=2k(x-4), find k if there are two real and equal roots.
-----------
The discriminant will be zero.
-------------
x^2-15=2kx-8k
x^2-2kx+8k-15=0
---------------
Discriminant: b^2-4ac
(2k)^2-4*1(8k-15) = 0
4k^2-32k+60 =0
k^2-8k+15 = 0
(k-3)(k-5)=0
k = 3 or k=5

---------------
I + C = 2.4 billion
I= (4/5)C
----------
Substitute and solve for C
(4/5)C + C = 2.4 billion
1.8C = 2.4
C = 1 1/3 is appox 1.3 billion
-------------------
I = (4/5)(4/3) = 16/15 = 1.0667 is approx 1.1 billion

Graphs/121515: This question is from textbook algebra 1
Hi i need major help on how to solve an equation using the substitution method the equation is as follows {3x + y = 21,
10x +5y =65
1 solutions

Answer 89161 by stanbon(57361) About Me  on 2008-01-21 09:45:29 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x + y = 21,
10x +5y =65
---------------
Solve the 1st equation for "y": y = -3x+21
Substitute into the 2nd equation after dividing thru by 5
2x+y = 13
2x+(-3x+21)=13
-x=-8
x = 8
--------
Substitute into y = -3x+21 to solve for "y":
y = -3*8+21
y = -24+21
y = -3

2 - Research at the University of Toledo indicates that 50 percent of the students change their major area of study after their first year in a program. A random sample of 100 students in the College of Business revealed that 48 had changed their major area of study after their first year of the program. Has there been a significant decrease in the proportion of students who change their major after the first year in this program? Test at the .05 level of significance.

ok i vaguely remember what the domain is ... which is x ...right? if im wrong here is the problem
what is the domain of x+3over 2x^2-13x+15?

Answer 89126 by stanbon(57361) About Me  on 2008-01-20 22:05:39 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
what is the domain of x+3over 2x^2-13x+15?
-------------------
The domain is the set of values "x" can have.
--------------------
Your Problem:
(x+3)/(2x^2-13x+15)
Factor so you can see what values x cannot take:
(x+3)/[(2x^2-10x-3x+15)]
(x+3)/[2x(x-5)-3(x-5)]
(x+3)/[(x-5)(2x-3)]
--------------------
The denominator cannot zero, so
x-5 cannot be zero; x cannot be 5
2x-3 cannot be zero; x cannot be 3/2
------------------------
Domain is all Real Numbers except x = 5, and x=3/2
