You can put this solution on YOUR website!During the next production cycle, 1,200 hours of labor are available under a union agreement.
The firm also has a stock of 3,500 feet of good quality redwood.
----------
Let # of benches produced be "b"; Let # of picnic tables produced be "P".
Each bench that Outdoor Furniture produces requires 4 labor hours and 10 feet of redwood:
each picnic table takes 6 labor hours and 35 feet of redwood.
------------
Labor Inequality: 4b+6p <= 1200
Redwood Inequality: 10b+35p <= 3500
Completed benches will yield a profit of $9 each, and tables will result in a profit of $20 each.
------------------------
Objective Function: Profit = 9b+20p
--------------------------
How many benches and tables should Outdoors Furniture produce to obtain the largest possible profit? Use graphical Linear programming approach.
---------------------------
INEQUALITIES:
Labor: p <= (-2/3)b + 200
Redwood: p <= (-2/7)b + 100
-------------------------------
Graph the solution sets of both inequalities:

-------------------------
Determine the vertices of the solution set:
(0,100), (262.5,25) (300,0)
----------------------
Check each vertex pair in the objective function to see which pair
yields the maximum profit.
Profit = 9b+20p
(0,100) yields: 2000
(262.5,25) yields: 9*262.5+20*25=2862.50
(300,0) yields 9*300 = 2700
---------------------------
Conclusion: maximum comes with 263 benches and 25 picnic tables.

-------------------------------
Ho: mu <= 250
Ha: mu > 250
---------------------------
Critical Value for one-tail t-test with alpha = 5% and 24 degrees of freedom
t = 1.711
----------------
Test Statistic:
t(275.66-250)/[78.11/sqrt(25)] = 1.6426

Conclusion: Fail to reject Ho because the test statistic is less than the
critical value. This sample does not prove a violation of the guideline.
--------
Is it a close decision?: The probability difference between t=1.6426 and
t=1.711 is about 0.0068 which is very small. A slight variation in
the test results could have caused us to reject Ho.

Probability-and-statistics/127352: This question is from textbook Applied Statistics in Business and Economics
I see that the following problem had already been solved, but I want to understand why it was solved the way it was compared to how I thought it should be solved. Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter!
A coin was flipped 60 times and came up heads 38 times. (a) At the .10 level of significance, is the coin biased toward heads? Show your decision rule and calculations. (b) Calculate a p-value and interpret it.
Ho: p is equal to .50
Ha: p is not equal to .50
alpha=10%, x=38, n=60, p-hat=.63
Critical value: z=-1.645 and 1.645
(0.63-.50)/sqrt[.50*.50/60]=2.01395134
since z is greater than -1.645 and 1.645, the Ho should be rejected.
p-value=0.022007
Therefore, only 2.2% of test results could have given stronger evidence that the coin is biased away from p=.50

You can put this solution on YOUR website!If I was to increase and concave the upward behavior of g(x) then this would be my results:
g”(x) <0 & g’(x)>0 Could you tell me if I got the answer correct? Thank you!
-----------------------
If I understand you correctly, g(x) looks like an exponential function.
The slope is always positive so g'(x)>0.
So g'(x) is always above the x axis and its values are increasing as x increases. I think g'(x) is also an exponential function.
If so g''(x) >0
--------------
Example:
Say g(x)=2^x = e^(xlnx)
Then g'(x) = (lnx)2^x which is also an exponential function.
Therefore g''(x) = lnx(lnx*2^x)+(2^x(1/x)) = 2^x[(lnx)^2+(1/x)]

You can put this solution on YOUR website!David has fourteen thousand dollars to invest and he invest nine thousand in a mutual fund that pays twelve per cent annual simple interest. If he wants to make at least twenty two hundred dollars in yearly interest, at what minimum rate does the remainder of the money need to be invested?
-------------
12% investment DATA:
Amount = 9000 dollars ; interest = 0.12(9000) = 1080 dollars
----------------------
x% investment DATA:
Amount:5000 ; interest 5000x dollars
------------------------
EQUATIOn:
1080 + 5000x >= 2200
5000x >= 1120
x >= 22.4%

You can put this solution on YOUR website!What is the solution to the sysytem of equations y=2x and y=-x+3?
--------------
Substitute to get:
2x = -x+3
3x = 3
x = 1
--------
Substitute to solve for "y":
y = 2*1 = 2

Prob(both fail) =0.2*0.2 = 0.04
------------------------------------
Prob(neither will fail) = 0.8*0.8 = 0.64
---------------------------------------
Prob(one will fail) = 1-P(none will fail)-Prob(both will fail) = 1-0.68
= 0/32

Probability-and-statistics/127276: Given a mean (8.0 hours) and a standard deviation (4.5 hours) of a population, calculate the probability of an event that falls between 5 to 10 hours. This question is due on day 5. 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Given a mean (8.0 hours) and a standard deviation (4.5 hours) of a population, calculate the probability of an event that falls between 5 to 10 hours. This question is due on day 5.
-----------------
Find the z-score of 5 and of 10:
z(5) = (5-8)/4.5 = -3/4.5 = -1/1.5 = -0.667
z(10)= (10-8)/4.5 = 2/4.5 = 0.4444
-------------
Use your z-chart or your calculator to find the following:
Probability (5<=x<=10) = P(-0.667 <= z <= 0.444) = 0.4191

You can put this solution on YOUR website!The answer that I have come up with is: (e -1).2:
The problem is what are the exact evaluation of, (integral sign), 2xe^(x^2) dx over the intervals (0, 1). I feel this is not correct, can you verify that for me please?
Answer: e^x^2 evaluated at 1 minus e^x^2 evaluated at 0
= e-1
----------------------
Also please, I have determined that In x is not the correct completion of the formula, (integral sign), (1/x). Is that correct, or should I do more research on this subject?
Answer: ln(x) + C because you want the indefinite integral, and C might
always be part of the function that was differentiated to arrive at
an answer of ln(x).
Example: The derivative of f(x) = ln(x) +2 is the same as the derivative
of f(x)= ln(x) + 5
So when you integrate ln(x) you should write ln(x)+C to cover all the
possible constants that might be part of the answer.
-----------
It's a different story when you take the definite integral from x=a to
x=b because you subtract out the constant that may have been part of
the function.

Trigonometry-basics/127225: Hello. Please help me ASAP- I need to turn this in quick. So I have a worksheet that says that I need to discriminate the solutions of the quadratic equation: x squared + 5x + 3 + a. How do I do it and what does the direction mean?
Thanks. 1 solutions
Answer 93193 by stanbon(57424) on 2008-02-15 22:48:38 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!discriminate the solutions of the quadratic equation: x squared + 5x + 3 + a.
-----------------
The discriminant of a quadratic is b^2-4ac
---------------
Your quadratic has a = 1, b=5, c=3+a
-----------
Your discriminant is 5^2 -4*1*(3+a) = 25-12-4a = 13-4a
---------------------
When the discriminant is less than zero you have no Real Number solutions:
13-4a < 0
4a>13
a > 13/4
-----------
When the discriminant is equal to zero you have two equal Real number solutions:
13-4a = 0
4a = 13
a = 13/4
-------------
when the discriminant is greater than zero you have two unequal Real number
solutions:
13-4a >0
4a<13
a < 13/4
