You can put this solution on YOUR website!Andy and Ben took 4 hours to paint a room together. Andy could paint the same room on his own in 7 hours. How long would it take Ben to paint the same room on his own? ( Leave the answer as a mixed number )
---------------------------------------------
Together DATA:
time = 4 hrs/job ; rate = 1/4 job/hr
----------------
Andy DATA:
time = 7 hrs/job ; rate = 1/7 job/hr
-----------------
Ben DATA:
time = x hrs/job ; rate = 1/x job/hr
--------------------
EQUATION:
rate + rate = together rate
1/x+ 1/7 = 1/4
Multiply thru by 28x to get:
28 + 4x = 7x
3x = 28
x = 38/3 = 12 2/3 hrs (time for Ben to do the job alone)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!A group of students decides to sell pizzas to help raise money for their senior class trip.
They sold pepperoni for $12, sausage for $10, and cheese for $8.
----------------
At the end of their sales the class sold a total of 600 pizzas and made $5900.
Quantity Eq: p + s + c = 600
Value Eq: 12p + 10s + 8c = 5900
-------------------
The students sold 175 more cheese pizzas than sausage pizzas.
Relation Eq: c = s + 175
------------------
Set up a system of three equations and three unknowns, use an augmented matrix to solve. Identify the three unknowns.
---------------------------
Write a separate equation representing each of the first three sentences.
p + s + c = 600
12p + 10s + 8c = 5900
0 - s + c = 175
-------------
Comment: You can write these as an aumented matix
---------------
Solve the system anyway you can to get:
p = 225 (# of pepperoni sold)
s = 100 (# of sausage sold)
c = 275 (# of cheese sold)
---------------------------
Determine the augmented matrix that represents the three equations and solve for the matrix.

If your equation is correct you can solve for "i":
1/i = [1/250] -[1/2mil]
1/i = [2mil - 250]/[500 mil]
Inverting both sides you get:
i = [500 mil]/[2mil-250]
i = [500 mil] / [1.5mil]
i = 333 1/3 million

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Given triangle ABC with a=13, b=14 and A=35degrees find c.
Round your answer to two decimal places.
The answer for that is c= 21.69 OR 1.24
I worked out the problem and got c= 21.69,
I just don't know how to get 1.24!
Could you show me step by step how to get 1.24!
----------------------
Law of Sines:
SinB/14 = Sin35/13
SinB = (14/13)sin(35)=0.6176977
B = sin^-1(0.6176977)= 38.148 degrees
-----------------
Then Angle C = 180-(35+38.148) = 106.85
---------------
Solving for "c":
c/sinC = 13/sin(35)
c = (sin106.85)[13/sin(35)]
c = 21.69
----------------
How to get c = 1.24!
B = sin^-1(0.6176977) = 180-38.148 = 141.852
--------
Then Angle C = 180-(35+141.852) = 3.148 degrees
---------
solving for "c"
c/sinC = 13/sin(35)
c = sin(3.148)[13/sin(35)]
c = 1.244645...
-----------------------
So you see the inverse sine of (0.6176977) could have two values
and the resulting triangles would be different.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A consumer agency tested 290 hams, finding that 64 were underweight.
(a) Construct a 95 percent confidence interval for the true percent of underweight hams.
p-hat = 64/290 = 0.22
E = 1.96sqrt(0.22*0.78/290) = 0.024
95% CI: 0.22-0.024 < p < 0.22+0.024
: 0.196 < p < 0.22024
------------------------
(b) If the goal is to reduce the incidence of under weight hams to 25 percent or less, does this sample show that the goal is being achieved?
No, we have 95% confidence that p is between 19.6% and 22%
That interval does not include 25%

(c) Explain how this confidence interval is equivalent to a two-tailed test at α = .05.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!You have three pieces of string, each 60 cm long. You form a circle with one piece, a square with another, and an equilateral triangle with the third piece. How do the areas of the three figures compare? Explain.
---------------
The circle has a circumference of 60 cm
Find the radius so you can find its area.
2(pi)r = 60
r = 30/pi
Area = (pi)(30/pi)^2 = 900/pi sq cm
-----------------
The square has 4 sides that are each 60/4 = 15 cm
Area = 15^2 = 225 sq cm
------------------
The triangle has three sides that are each 20 cm.
base = 20 cm
Draw a perpendicular bisector from the base to the vertex; height = h
h^2 + 10^2 = 20^2
h^2 = 400-100 = 300
h = 10sqrt(3)
Area = (1/2)bh
Area = (1/2)20*10sqrt(3)
Area = 100sqrt(3) sq cm
-----------------
Now you can compare the areas any way you want to.

---------
1st leg = 1.5*625 = 937.5 mi
2nd leg = 2*625 = 1300
included angle = 170 degrees
--------------------------------
Use the law of cosines:
The side opposite the 170 degree angle is the distance you want.
a^2 = b^2 + c^2 -2bc Cos(A)
a^2 = 937.5^2 + 1300^2 -2*937.5*1300Cos(170)
Solve for "a".
I'll leave that to you.

Angles/141856: You and your friend’s tugboats are 120 ft apart, and you’re pulling the same barge. The length of the cable from your tugboat to the barge is 212 ft, and the length of your friend’s cable is 230 ft. What is the angle formed by your two cables? 1 solutions

--------------------------------
Draw the triangle that is formed by the two ropes and the distance between
the tugs.
The angle you want is opposite the 120 ft. distance between the tugs.
Use the Law of Cosines to find the angle:
cos(A) = (b^2+c^2-a^2)/2bc
cos(A) = (212^2 + 230^2-120^2)/(2*212*230) = 0.85566
A = cos^-1(0.85566) = 31.167 degrees

Human-and-algebraic-language/141858: A consumer electronics company sells 6.7 million MP3 players per month at a price of $100 apiece; when the price is lowered to $80, the company sells 10.2 million players per month. How many MP3 players can the company expect to sell per month at a price of $75?
-------------------------
You have two points: (100,6.7) (80,10.2)
----------
slope = (6.7-10.2)/(100-80) = -3.5/20 = -0.175 million/dollars
----------
Form: selling # = (slope)(cost) + b
10.2 = -0.175(80) + b
b = 24.2
-----------
EQUATION:
selling # = -0.175(cost) + 24.2
How many MP3 players can the company expect to sell per month at a price of $75?
selling#(75) = -0.175*75 + 24.2
selling#(75) = 11.075 million

Probability-and-statistics/141846: Does lovastatin (a cholesterol-lowering drug) reduce the risk of heart attack? In a Texas study,
researchers gave lovastatin to 2,325 people and an inactive substitute to 2,081 people (average age

inactive pill. (a) State the appropriate hypotheses. (b) Obtain a test statistic and p-value. Interpret
