Linear-equations/144106: I have to use either elimination or substitution to find the solutions and show my work. Then I will have to graph it. The graphin is not my problem on this one. Trying to find the intercepts and slopes is. I have to have 3 points. The equation is :
5x + 6y = 1 and x + 7y = 2
This is what I did but I don't think its right and If it is, i don't know where to go from there to get the other points.
x=2-7y

At the .01 level of significance, is the true mean greater than 10?

t(14.44) = (14.44-10)/[4.45/sqrt(35)] = 4.44*sqrt (35)/4.45 = 5.9027
p-value = P (5.9027
the p-value is far less than alpha=1%, hasten to reject Ho.

Trigonometry-basics/144075: I have having problems with solving the following. If anyone can provide me with the steps it would be appreciated.
The measurement of land area assumes that the land is horizontal. What is the actual area of a 4.38 ha field if it is on a 15% slope.
Thanks, much appreciated. 1 solutions
Answer 104869 by stanbon(57285) on 2008-06-03 07:42:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Assuming the field is a square and has area = 4.58 on the horizontal,
it has a side of sqrt(4.58) = 2.1401..
------------------------------------------
The 15% slope has a gradiant of 0.15*90 degrees = 13.5 degrees
----------------------
The horizontal side projects to a hypotenuse of a right triangle
with an angle of 13.5 degrees adjacent to the 2.1401.. base.
----------------------
The length of that projected hypotenuse is 2.1401../cos(13.5)
= 2.2009..
----------------
Therefore the horizontal square projects to a quadrilateral with area
= 2.2009*2.1401 = 4.71012 ha

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The grade of a hill is 8.6%. If the road up the hill is 3.55 km long, what is the angle from the horizontal and the change in vertical and horizontal distances.
------------------
Draw the picture.
If you have a right triangle extending up the hill to the right,
the small angle on the left is 8.6% = 0.086*90 = 7.74 degrees
------------------
The hypotenuse is 3.55 km
--------------------
The vertical side opposite the 7.74 degree angle = 3.55(sin(7.74))=0.4781..km

The base side = 3.55(cos(7.74)) = 3.51766..km

------------------------
(a) At the 5 percent level of significance, does this sample prove a
violation of the guideline that the average patient should pay no more than $250 out-of-pocket?
State your hypotheses and decision rule.
Ho: u<=250
Ha: u>250
------------
x-bar = 275.66 ; s = 78.11
-------------
Critical value for one-tail test when alpha =5% and df=24: t=1.711
test statistic:
t(275.66)= (275.66-250)/[78.11/sqrt(25)] = 1.6426
p-value: P(1.6426 < t < 10; df=24) = 0.0568
Conclusion:
Since p-value is greater than 5%, fail to reject Ho.
The mean out-of-pocket payment is not statistically greater than $250
----------------------
(b) Is this a close decision?
Yes because the p-value is quite close to 5%

this is the expanded equation, so how do i find the STANDARD form of
this equation?? and how do i find the coordinates of 4 VERTICES???
including major and minor axis???
-------------------------
1st: complete the square separately on the x and on the y terms to get:
[4x^2-16x] +[9y^2-18y] = 11
[4(x^2-4x+4)] + [9[y^2-2y+1)] = 11+4*4 + 9*1 = 36
Divide thru by 36 to get:
(x-2)^2/9 + (y-1)^2/4 = 1
This is the standard form of an ellipse:
-------------------------------
Center: (h,k) = (2,1)
-------------------------------
Semi-major axis = sqrt9 = 3
Semi-minor axis = sqrt4 = 2
------------------------------
Vertices on the major axis: (2+3,1) and (2-3,1)
vertices on the minor axis: (2,1+2) and (2,1-2)

missing information.
-----
You have the focus at (-3,4) and the directrix at y =2
The vertex is always half-way between the focus and the directrix.
The y-difference between the point and the directrix is 4-2 = 2
Half that distance is 1
---------------
So the vertex is at (-3,3)

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/144035: 3x (cube)+ 24x + 45
I want to know how to solve for the factor.
Thank you 1 solutions
Answer 104831 by stanbon(57285) on 2008-06-02 21:13:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!3x (cube)+ 24x + 45
= 3x^3+24x+45
--------
1st: Look for a common factor: it is 3
2nd: Look for some other factoring form, such as:
difference of squares
perfect trinomial square
trinomial factorable by AC method
difference or sum of cubes.
----------
You have none of these so can factor no further.

-x^2 + 10x - 21 / -3x^2 + 23x - 14 1 solutions
Answer 104830 by stanbon(57285) on 2008-06-02 21:08:05 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!-x^2 + 10x - 21 / -3x^2 + 23x - 14
= [x^2-10x+21] / [3x^2-23x+14]
= [(x-3)(x-7)] / [3x^2-21x-2x+14]
= [(x-3)(x-7)] / [(3x-2)(x-7)]
= (x-3)/(3x-2)

Trigonometry-basics/144023: How do I figure out what bearings should be used. The points on my triangle are A(1,2), B(3,8)and C(7,4) Angle measurements are A 52.85 degrees, B 63.76 degrees and C 63.39 degrees. I am going from point(0,0) to B(3,8). I need to know the exact bearing used to travel from (0,0) to point B. Also, how do I figure out the range of bearings so I avoid the triangle? 1 solutions

-----------------------------
The bearing from (0,0) to (3,8) is tan^-1(8/3) = 69.444 degrees

What do you mean by the "range of bearings so I avoid the triangle?"

Quadratic_Equations/144024: Please help.
Tim kicks a ball off the ground. After t seconds, its height, h (in feet), is given by the formula h = -16t^2 + 64t. What is the maximum height reached by the ball?

------------------
You have a quadratic with a = -16 and b = 64
The max occurs when t = -b/2a = -64/(2*-16) = 2 second
---------------------
The height at t = 2 sec is as follows:
h(2) = -16(2)^2 + 64(2) = 64 ft

x/x2nd power - 16 divided by x3power/x2nd power - 14x + 40 1 solutions
Answer 104760 by stanbon(57285) on 2008-06-02 08:16:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!x/x2nd power - 16 divided by x3power/x2nd power - 14x + 40
------------
x/(x^2-16)/x^3/(x^2-14x+40)
Factor where you can; then invert the denominator so you can multiply:
= [x/[(x-4)(x+4)]]
Cancel factors common to a numerator and a denominator: (x-4), x
= [1/(x+4)]
= (x-10)/[x^2(x+4)]

You can put this solution on YOUR website!Solve 4^x-6=16^x
4^(x-6) = 4^(2x)
x-6 = 2x
x = -6
--------------
and
e^-2x=0.3
Take the natural log of both sides to get:
-2x = ln0.3
-2x = -1.20397...
x = 0.60198...
